Good to know
Squalane is obtained by hydrogenating squalene, a natural compound found in olive oil and even in our own skin’s sebum. The process requires no solvents and produces a stable, skin-identical emollient. Olive remains one of the most sustainable sources compared to other crops such as rice, sugarcane, or palm.
Fun fact: Olive-derived squalane has been used since the 1980s as an ethical, plant-based alternative to animal-sourced (mainly shark) squalane. A small but meaningful evolution in cosmetic science.
