What to know before requesting a custom blend
At Circé + Medée, we offer a wide range of thoughtfully formulated teas and tinctures designed to support common and recurring wellness needs. For many people, these ready-made options are more than sufficient and allow for simple, accessible herbal support without additional steps.
We also offer custom and semi-custom products when appropriate. These are created with care and intention, but they require clear boundaries to ensure safety, ethics, and professional responsibility.
As our apothecary and clinical practice continue to grow, we are refining how custom work is handled.
A strong foundation already exists
Our tea collection includes a core range that supports digestion, relaxation, sleep, emotional balance, and seasonal needs, alongside targeted blends available in the pharmacy for concerns such as menstrual discomfort or headaches.
For tinctures, we work from a curated set of 34 master formulas. These can sometimes be combined or adjusted thoughtfully when circumstances allow, offering flexibility while maintaining safety and consistency.
In many cases, these existing products are the most appropriate place to start.
Understanding customization
To clarify language:
Over-the-counter products. Products taken as formulated, with general guidance only.
Semi-custom products. An existing product that is modified or adjusted. While this may seem minor, it still requires careful consideration and carries potential risk.
Custom products. A blend created from scratch. This requires the most time, attention, and information.
Customization is not simply mixing herbs. It involves reviewing health information, considering contraindications, understanding medications, and staying within a clearly defined professional scope.
Why changes are necessary
Herbs are active substances. They are not neutral, and they are not universally safe for everyone.
Without accurate and complete health information, it is possible for a well-intentioned product to be inappropriate or even harmful. This risk increases when decisions are rushed or made with incomplete disclosure.
For this reason, custom work can no longer be done on a same-day, made-while-you-wait basis.
Our updated policy
As of our January reopening on January 1:
• All custom and semi-custom products require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice • Same-day, on-site custom formulation is no longer available • A $25 customization fee applies to any semi-custom or custom product • A brief health disclosure and consent form is required for all customization
This fee reflects the professional time involved in reviewing information, assessing safety, formulating responsibly, and documenting appropriately. It allows this work to be done carefully rather than rushed.
Consultations versus general support
If you choose not to book a full herbal consultation, I am still happy to help. In that case, what can be offered is general wellness support only, based on limited information and within over-the-counter parameters.
Clinical-level customization, long-term planning, or condition-specific work requires a formal consultation and intake process. This distinction protects both client and practitioner and ensures care remains ethical and appropriate.
Our commitment
These boundaries allow Circé + Medée to continue offering custom work in a way that is safe, thoughtful, and aligned with professional standards.
If you are unsure what level of support you need, please ask. We are always happy to help you determine the most appropriate next step.
Thank you for trusting us and for supporting responsible herbal care.
